Ms Nalan AKYUREK VARDAR
Ms Akyurek Vardar, who has generously supplied all the material to us to prepare this
presentation of METU Museum on the Internet, is the administrator of the museum since 1994.
Ms Akyurek Vardar graduated from the department of Protohistory and Near-Asian Archaeology of
the faculty of Language and History - Geography of Ankara University in 1985 and received her
Master's Degree from the Institute of Social Sciences of the same university in 1992.
A short summary of her successful work related career is:
- Joined the Ministry of Culture, Monuments and Museums Administration in 1985, as an archaeologist,
- Became part of various archaeological excavations and expeditions since 1992 such as;
- Mardin/Girnevaz-1982, led by Prof Hayat Erkanal,
- Nigde/Keslik Vadisi-1983 and Nigde/Tyana-1984, led by Prof Aykut Cinaroglu,
- Adiyaman/Samsat-1984, led by Prof Nimet Ozguc,
- Izmir/Pergamon-1987, led by Prof Wolfgang Radt,
- Izmir/Bayrakli-1989, led by Prof Ekrem Akurgal,
- Antalya/Elmali-Semayuk-1990, led by Machteld J Mellink,
- Antalya/Elmali-1991, led by Assoc.Prof Bulent Iplikcioglu,
- Nigde/Porsuk-1992, led by Prof Olivier Pelon,
- Istanbul-1992, led by Dr Eugenia B Recchi-Franceschini.
- Participated in a number of exhitions, symposiums and conferences such as;
- An exhibition in Idemitsu Museum/Tokyo-Japan in 1990,
- A symposium in Lyon/France in 1989 and 1993,
- An international meeting in Rome/Italy in 1992 and 1993,
- Published a number of papers and contributed to the publication of various exhibition books,
- Contributed to the efforts of the Government of Turkey in demanding from a number European and American museums the return of some items to the museums of Turkey, to which they belong to!
- Currently, she carries an important role in the publication of bi-monthly bulletin of the Association of Archaeology and Archaeologist/Turkey.
