Malta's public transport system offers a very cheap and efficient way to tour the island. The main bus terminal is at Valletta where buses operate to all parts of Malta.
The costs for a bus ride is generally between 8 and 12 cents. The longest bus journey takes about 40 minutes, the average being 20 to 30 minutes.
GOZO FERRY & HELICOPTER SERVICES
The Gozo Channel Company Ltd (Tel - Malta: 243964/5/6, 580435/6; Gozo: 556114, 556743) operates a Ro-Ro service between Cirkewwa, Malta and Mgarr, Gozo.
From November to March the Ro-Ro Service starts from Mgarr Gozo at 6am until 10pm daily with 14 crossings a day. Corresponding times from Cirkewwa Malta are 6.45am and 10.30pm. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes. Between the end of March and the end of May, one night service trip is included, departing from Mgarr at midnight and from Cirkewwa at 12.30am. Between June and October further night sailings are included and the sailings are approximately every hour both from Malta and Gozo.
Additionally the company also runs a Hovermarine service between July and September. This service is operated between Gozo, Sliema and Sa Maison, daily except on Sundays. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes. A helicopter service is also available. It operates seven times daily (in winter) between Malta International Airport and Xewkija Heliport, Gozo.

Malta has the cheapest car rental rates in Europe. Prices start from LM4.50 per day, excluding mileage and insurance. Weekly rates are the most favourable.
Driving is on the left. There is a speed limit of 40 mph (64km/h) and 25mph (40km/h) in residential areas.
Although Maltese law permits driving from 18 years of age and up, with no upper-age limit, several car rental firms are reluctant to rent cars to persons under 25 years of age or over 70. Check with your travel agent.
Taxis can be identified by their all-white livery and are all metered. Should you wish to know in advance how much a trip will cost, it is best to check with the driver beforehand.
