From the Great Factories to the Museum of Industries

Visit some of the oldest, such as that of Gobelins dedicated to tapestries (Paris), or the famous Sevres porcelain factory (West of Paris). You will find ceramics from Sevres to Roubaix with an outstanding 20th century collection, in the Museum of Art and Industry. This museum, a creation representative of the 1930s was built in a former swimming pool along the lines of a cistercian abbey. Its industrial heritage by way of its textile collections, is unique.

To find out more about the technical traditions of the north visit the Ecomuseum in the region of Fourmies-Trelon. Here scenes depicting glass work, weaving and stone cutting are all staged. But the north still has a strong connection with mining. A visit to the historical mining center of Lewarde, retracing the footsteps of Zola, will enable you to gain a full understanding of this industry.
