THE EPHESUS MUSEUM

undefinedThis is one of the most important museums in Turkey. It mainly exhibits the pieces found in and around the Ephesus.

The findings before the 1st World War were taken to The Museum of Vienna. After the war the new findings were stored in the Izmir Museum. Since the 2nd World War all small findings are on display in the Ephesus Museum. The large size findings are naturally restored and kept in their original place in the city of Ephesus. The museum of Ephesus is considered to be one of the best archaeological museums in Turkey.

undefinedThe most important pieces of the Ephesus Museum are Mycenean vases, statues and small decorations of the Artemis temple, Corinthian columns and column heads, tombs, altar of the Domitian temple, two statues of Artemis of Ephesus, a fresco representing Socrates. There are also a number of statues from various monuments and buildings, friezes made up of bronze and ivory, frescos and wall paintings from Hellenistic , Roman and Christian era, gold and silver coins, statues of gods and goddesses, emperor statues, various cult statues, portraits and busts from early Christian era.
