THE THEATER GYMNASIUM (Ephesus)
This Roman era theater gymnasium was built in the 2nd century A.D. It is located to 100m. north of the Theater. It faces the Harbor road and also the Marble road.
Only the palaestra (sports field) has been excavated and restored. The remaining sections including a stadium-like sports field, with stairs used as tribunes were revealed to exist in this sports complex.
The palaestra was a 30 x 70m. open field surrounded from three sides with covered columns. From the limited excavations we understood that a bath, a large meeting room and some classes were part of this important sports complex.
